An Xbox controller, a mosquito emoji and a pair of Snapchat spectacles have been added to the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection. The acquisitions were made as part of the museum's "rapid response collecting" programme, which began in 2014 and has seen an eclectic range of objects, including an Ikea soft toy, a Jeremy Corbyn T-shirt and a pink knitted pussyhat enter the collection. The Xbox adaptive controller, which allows gamers with a wider variety of abilities and disabilities to play, is the newest addition. Corinna Gardner, the senior curator of design and digital at the V&A, said the controller was an industry first and represented an important moment in contemporary design history. The Microsoft product, which goes on sale this month, allows people to play games as they choose, or as they need.

Snapchat Spectacles have just launched in the UK. The high-tech glasses let you record short videos with the push of a button, without having to get your phone out of your pocket. They were previously only available to buy in the US, having first been unveiled in September 2016. The I.F.O. is fuelled by eight electric engines, which is able to push the flying object to an estimated top speed of about 120mph. The Times report also stated the company was working on technology to take overhead videos and images. According to Snapchat's offering prospectus issued at the time of its initial public offering (IPO), an average Snapchat user opened the app more than 18 times a day and around 2.5 billion images and videos were sent each day using the app. Spectacles also represent the company's vision for hardware -- Snap, it seems, is aspiring to build on Snapchat's success by offering users unique ways to capture videos and images. Its namesake app was one of many photo/video-based apps, until it started offering a'Stories' feature – users could post videos that would stay on the app for 24 hours and then disappear.

Snapchat could be working on a camera drone at its secretive California research labs, rumours suggest. Three people working behind the scenes at the company revealed the drone plans to the New York Times this week. Snapchat is yet to confirm the existence of the drones, or what they would be used for. The New York Times described its informants as'people briefed on the project who asked to remain anonymous because the details are confidential.' The drone technology could help Snapchat users to take photos and video from above.
